Korean American artist, Samuel LaPell was born in Gwangju, South Korea in 1999 and was adopted and raised in Stephentown, New York. He received a BFA from the New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University with a concentration in ceramic functional ware and mixed media installation. From a young age, LaPell participated in classes at IS183 Art School of the Berkshires, where he dove headfirst into pursuing his passion for the arts. Since that introduction, he has been awarded and honorably mentioned at the Columbia Greene Juried Art shows in 2017 and 2018, curated and created work for Rough Housing (2019) and Vignettes: The Time We Didn’t Share Together (2021) at the Robert C. Turner Gallery in Alfred, NY, and has been awarded both the Val Cushing Award and Art History Award at Alfred University.
Samuel’s most recent works were exhibited at his BFA thesis show on May 7, 2022, titled Welcome Home, Goodbye, Home. Since then Samuel has been pursuing a passion for the culinary arts working at The Aviary (Kinderhook, NY) and as a gallery associate at Ferrin Contemporary Gallery at Project Art (Cummington, MA).
